Field trip
Zion Press -- Unlike most teachers, Kari liked field trips. She liked the getting out of the building for a bit, seeing her kids in a different light, listening to the kids on the bus chatter She had no idea Aiden liked Addison! He kept that one pretty quiet! She’d have to remember to put them together next time they switched seats. Oh, and Madison couldn’t stand Joey. He bugged her for some reason. Kari wondered what would happen if she put them together. Ah, young love. Or young indifference. Could go either way.
Over the last few months, she had missed field trips. Hands on learning, and even if was a trip she’d taken with her team every year, she always found she learned a bit. She liked having someone else talk to the students and get them involved, especially the ones she couldn’t reach in her class.
After weeks of being unable to go on a field trip, she had one planned for today, and she was excited. It wouldn’t be the same as when it happened in the “before times” but she was willing to give it a try. She gathered her small brood and reminded them of field trip protocol. Don’t bug the workers, stay within the lines, ask questions if they offer a question and answer.
“We know! We’ve got it!” the students reminded her, excited as well. “Then let’s do it!” Kari led them through the class to their first stop. “This is the kitchen, where all the workers come to eat. You might see something you like, and we’ll come back to it, so keep it in mind.” They quietly went through the library, checking out the titles and the pictures on the wall. In a neat row, they went up the stairs, taking care not to disturb anyone in the building, but still excited to be on a field trip. Next, they found the office workers. She stealthily opened the door to see where the worker was in his day. It hadn’t taken much to convince him to let her take the kids on a field trip. “Hey, Dad!” Both kids yelled happily. “We get to come see you at work today!”
“Awesome! Perfect timing. Let’s go grab some lunch.” They headed back down the stairs, tripping over their toys and found the sandwiches Kari made earlier.
